CSA A123.24-15 Standard Wind Test Method of VRAs
Wind & Vegetated Roofing Assemblies
Part 1 of Series by Dr. Karen Liu
The National Research Council Canada, in collaboration with the members of the Canadian green roof industry, conducted a 3-year research project to study the wind performance of green roofs. The research findings led to the development of a new national standard – CSA A123.24-15 Standard Test Method for Wind Resistance of Modular Vegetated Roof Assembly.
Proper design is critical
The standard test method measures the wind uplift resistance of a green roof system and provides a tool for the designers and building officials to evaluate its suitability for specific projects to ensure public safety.
Wind expert Bas Baskaran, Ph.D, P.Eng, and his NRC team, oversaw the testing and issued Report A1-004442 on February 10, 2016.
