University of Toronto Landmark

Specialized Stormwater Management

The pre-vegetated LiteN’Less IIIgreen roof adorns the rooftop of a prominent modern steel pavilion in front of Convocation Hall. The green roof is visible to people on the upper floors of the surrounding heritage buildings and helps blend the entrance to the underground parking with the greenery of King’s College Circle.  Designed by landscape architect Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates and KPMB Architects, the green roof helps achieve the project’s aesthetic and sustainability goals.

Simplicity Done Well

Designers achieve a modern aesthetic with this minimalist and low maintenance system. While LiteN’Less systems have a high water-retention-to weight ratio to help manage stormwater, the soilless is an ideal solution for hard to access roofs as there is minimal fertilization irrigation and weeding required.
