Indigenous House UTS, designed by Formline Architecture and Urbanism and Public Work Urban Design & Landscape Architecture has received national recognition for architectural excellence, most notably the 2023 Canadian Architect Award of Merit. It’s been described as a “rare 21st-century feat…culturally meaningful and strongly connected to the surrounding landscape”. The pre-vegetated Alpine Meadow green roof system on the sloped sections features a customized native plant community that also manages stormwater, enhances pollinator habitat and reduces heat island effects.The biodiverse meadow planting reflects Indigenous concepts of stewardship and connection to the land and surrounding ravine ecosystem.
